Truck driver career outlook

Apr 19, 2019

Sisbro truck drivers know it’s a great time to be a part of the trucking industry. According to the American Trucking Association, freight tonnage is projected to grow 40.4 percent over the forecast period between now and 2028. They also predict that revenue from hauling goods is expected to rise 89.1 percent by 2028. With more purchases being made than ever before, drivers will be an integral part of getting the freight from the manufacturer to companies and customers.

There is currently a truck driver shortage. The driver shortage stretches back a quarter century, and most recently a run-up in freight demand, staggeringly high turnover rates and waves of baby boomer retirements are compounding the problem. The ATA estimates that companies need about 60,000 drivers and that number could grow to 100,000 in just a few years. The ATA also notes that it takes 3.5 million truck drivers to transport the amount of freight necessary for the economy to continue to move. It’s safe to say that the country does not function without truck drivers.

Sisbro is doing its part to keep truck drivers happy and employed by understanding the driver’s needs. We know that drivers need the right mix of family and home time to strike the right work/home balance. We let each driver choose OTR, regional, or local routes based upon their preference. They also get to choose live load or not. There’s no forced dispatch through Sisbro trucking either. Lastly, we pay 100 percent of each driver’s health insurance premiums. Our drivers are more than a number … they are a part of the Sisbro family and we look to keep each and every one for the long run!
